The Prophet ﷺ advised us to fast the day of Ashura. Why is Ashura so important? What is the importance of the month of Muharram in Islam?

The day of Ashurah is the 10th day of Muharram and was when the Prophet entered Madinah and saw the Jews fasting, celebrating, etc because it was the day that Musa (a.s) lead his people to safety. The Prophet ﷺ then began to fast as well because Muslims have a great right on Musa (a.s). The Prophet ﷺ said that the best of fasting after Ramadan is the month of Allah - Muharram. When you fast this one day of Ashurah, Allah will expiate your minor sins.
